Tuesday Tip from our Dietitian – PROTEIN
Protein is a macronutrient that is an important part of a healthy eating pattern. It is made up of amino acids and plays a vital role in repairing and building bones and muscles in our bodies. Protein also provides a wide variety of other nutrients such as iodine, iron, zinc, vitamin B12, and essential fatty acids. Protein can help you feel fuller for longer, which may reduce your overall energy intake as you feel more satisfied from each meal across the day.
Protein foods include meat, poultry, seafood, legumes, nuts and seeds, eggs and dairy foods. It is important to choose lean meats trimmed of visible fat and avoid processed meats.
