TUESDAY TIP – EDAMAME, THE PERFECT SNACK

Edamame is a tasty, nutritious legume that’s an excellent low-calorie snack option.

Edamame beans are whole, immature soybeans.  Unlike most plant proteins, soybeans provide all the essential amino acids your body needs.

They are high in protein. 1 cup (155 grams) of cooked edamame provides around 18.5 grams of protein – getting enough protein is crucial for optimal health.

Additionally, edamame is rich in healthy fibre, antioxidants, vitamin K and folate.  It is low in carbs, relative to protein and fat.  It also measures very low on the glycaemic index which means it does not excessively raise blood sugar levels.

Add them to your salads, flavour with fresh garlic or eat on their own as a snack.  They don’t require a long time to cook – just boil for 3-5 minutes or steam, microwave or pan-fry.
