TUESDAY TIP – CHIA SEEDS
Chia seeds are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. Despite their small size, chia seeds are full of important nutrients. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and they provide fibre, iron, and calcium.
They are the richest plant source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help raise HDL cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke. They are a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids that cannot be made by the body.
By weight, they are 6% water, 46% carbohydrates (of which 83% is fibre), 34% fat, and 19% protein.
RECIPE – CHIA PUDDING BREAKFAST:
Mix ¼ cup of seeds with one cup of liquid such as milk (almond, soy, or dairy) in a bowl. Allow to sit for at least 15 minutes or refrigerate overnight. Add almonds or other nuts, berries, hemp seeds & cinnamon for a nutrient rich breakfast.
